John Patrick, president Attitude LLC is a founding member of the World Wide Web Consortium and with 35 years at IBM has seen his share of computer and Internet hacking. While he says we should not be surprised at the attempts to disrupt the election system in the US, we need to keep in mind that there is no single point of attack. There is no national voting infrastructure but rather hundreds of systems used by state and local authorities to register voters, and allow for voting and counting of ballots.
John says there are simple, safe, and secure voting technologies available to insure all votes count so now might be the time to call for some national election standards. He also points out some of the fallacies about using mail-in ballots as an alternative to same day voting.
